OnePage co-founder Osita Nwoye Launches Lotaar

Last month, Nigerian-born-UK-based, Osita Nwoye quit OnePage, a startup he helped found in 2009 along with British-born Joel Gascoigne. Yesterday, he announced the launch of Lotaar, which he is co-founding with his friend, Roland Ukor.

Lotaar (pronounced Lo-taar, meaning ‘remember’ in Igbo Language) is built to remind you when your favourite TV and Radio programmes are about to start so you can tune in.  It will also be useful to discover new cool programmes.

Simply put, Lotaar is a social television and radio guide.

What’s unique?

Lotaar is trying to solve problems for both broadcasters and their audience using a bit of social graph here, semantic web there, and perhaps some magic “abracadabra” sauce!

With Lotaar, the audience would be reminded to tune-in to programmes they would love to watch or listen to live. Most times, distractions from perhaps Facebook, time zone confusions, etc make people forget to tune in.

In today’s information overload and over one billion channels on cable TV, it would be easy to find new, cool and useful programmes to watch with Lotaar.

For broadcasters, Lotaar would help them reduce spending a fortune trying to attract viewers that usually forget to tune in to certain programmes. Lotaar simply wants to help your viewers remember when your show is on.

With Lotaar, broadcasters can have an articulate way of getting feedback from viewers regarding their programmes.

At the moment, Lotaar is neither in Alpha nor on Beta, but displays a holding page with information about the service and a feedback form on their homepage in order to collect early feedback from people.

My thoughts

I think this is a fantastic service that will soon go mainstream, just like Twitter has. I’m not sure how Lotaar plans to hold all of the world’s television and radio programmes, but it’ll be very interesting to watch this space.
