It’s been about 100 days since BarCamp Nigeria gathered software and mobile applications developers, technology enthusiasts and entrepreneurs in Lagos, Nigeria where discussions on building a tech community in Nigeria amongst others were highlighted.
“BarCamp was a start. We need to keep the community alive and create regular – I suggest quarterly opportunities to follow up on BarCamp…We [Microsoft) would be happy to point the community to available tools, platforms and technology innovation to nurture and actualize ideas.

Unfortunately, we’re yet to see a technology/developer community as in South Africa, Kenya or Uganda. Should we wait for Somalia or Burundi?
At BarCamp Nigeria 2009, I used Startups Nigeria as a platform to connect with almost all of the other participants at the unconference with the goal of understanding better the start-up ecosystem in Nigeria and meeting the entrepreneurs behind the online ventures.
My conclusions: the industry has a lot of talents that need to be tapped and exposed to the global technology space. The only challenge is the right community to make this happen.
My goal: to help build a technology community in Nigeria via an online platform that would bring together developers, designers, entrepreneurs, students as well as investors.
My resolve: to engage with technology companies such as Microsoft Nigeria, Nokia Nigeria, Google Nigeria, Intel Nigeria amongst others that would support this community and the vision to build the largest business and technology community in Africa.

If you step forward to coordinate this, I'm sure you'll have the blessings of the many people who've hoped for this, discussed it and maybe even attempted to get one started.
I'd be glad to add value to this, because we NEED it! I'd thought we could build such community on existing platforms but what you describe will require the kind of energy (and more) we saw in the room on April 25, 2009.

I must say community is very important and we need here and now.
Other African countries have been benefiting from this.
I was at the SEC (organized by SADC Success Digest)meeting last week, though the gathering was more for internet marketers but the community is enviable compare to ours (developers,analyst and entrepreneur). About 700 people were in attendance! (covered on http://webtrendng.com)
As Gbenga pointed out; it will require energy and time devotion (many has come and gone) as well as funds.
Let’s get out acts together!

This is a welcome development . I was part of the Barcamp Nigeria and i must confess I have never seen a gathering where young budding IT entrepreneurs and IT enthusiasts like me gathered before to chat a new course for Nigeria. Its obvious that IT will be the next revolution in Nigeria all we need is to work together more and forget about our different backgrounds and association but unite on the platform of Information technology.
Its a good idea that will come together, but things changes as soon as meeting ended. We tend to be busy with other things and forget the last discussion.
I'm always in for this……………
However, we need MORE ACTION and less talk.
